IWSG DAY, Jully 7, 2021, What Would Make Me Quit Writing? By Pat Garcia

Hello Everyone,

It is IWSG Time!

IWSG is a writers' support group created and led by Alex Cavanaugh.

Purpose: To share and encourage. Writers can express doubts and concerns without fear of appearing foolish or weak. Those who have been through the fire can offer assistance and guidance. It’s a safe haven for insecure writers of all kinds!

This group is an immense help to many of us who do not mind sharing our insecurities, our successes, or giving encouragement and support to others.

So, if you are interested and would like to join, the link below will lead you directly to us

What Would Make Me Quit Writing?

I think many situations could come up that would rob me of my ability to write. A disability, a mental sickness, a memory loss would test me, but I hope I never have to experience such a loss.

Wishing everyone a happy and peaceful month of July.

Shalom aleichem,

  1. Most writers would not quit willingly. May you never be forced to quit either.
    Thanks for co-hosting!

  2. Thank you for sharing! I love that you put your submissions in your post as well. I did not even think about an illness or accident that would make me quit writing but I agree! When I was young I was afraid I would break my right arm so I practiced with my left in order to prepare.

    1. Hi,
Thank you for coming by. I learned that from Shannon Lawrence, whose blog is The Warrior Muse. I also follow her. Her submitting and reporting her submissions was one of the things that gave me courage to do the same.
      All the best.

  4. Thanks for co-hosting this month. Yes, we'd all have to quit writing if we experienced a medical condition that prevented us from writing or thinking clearly. Hope it never happens to any of us.

  7. It would take something pretty extreme, like mental illness or memory loss, to make me stop writing entirely. Another post mentioned Alzheimer's. That might do it. My grandfather had Alzheimer's, though, and certain habits and behaviors never truly went away. I feel like the habit of writing would be hard to kill, even for Alzheimer's.

  8. Thank you for co-hosting. I found your blog from your link - it first takes you to an error page, by the way, but then if you click "HOME" underneath your image, it takes you to this page. Just wanted you to know. I recently had a detached retina and couldn't see for about three months while it was healing. It was frightening. My vision is fine now but what a scare. Prayers for all of us that we can continue with our passion to write.

Thank you for mentioning that about the blog link. I will check into it. Gee, that was frightening with the detached retina. I am glad you can see again. And I join you in praying that all of us can continue to practice our passion to write.

  16. I didn't consider take health challenges, or even death into consideration. I take back the "nothing" part in my blog post. Mental health and memory problems would be a total issue. It's one of the many reasons I stay away from alcohol. Happy IWSG Day, and thank you for co-hosting!

  33. I think your reply is honest, Pat. We hope it won't happen, but there are plenty of things which would make us quit writing.

I'm sorry it's taken me so long, but you know the myriad things that are required when releasing a new book. So I finally reread your short story and have left a review on Amazon. Are there any other places you wish to see a review?

My every good wish for your publication journey, my friend.

  39. A friend's husband was in hospice. I visited him there, alternating with his wife, trying to be a positive presence in his last moments. He told me of his love for his wife, his thankfulness for the time they had together, and then he handed me a poem written on a small scrap of paper, his words not quite written in a straight line. That gift of connectedness that writing -- or other arts -- brings us seems so essential that I can't quite imagine you not writing or not singing, even if it's only quietly inside.

  40. Hi Pat,
I'm sorry to be so late. I was sure I posted on Wednesday. Glad I double checked your blog. After reading so many replies to this question, I'd say we are special. I haven't found one person saying they'd quit if they didn't earn more or fame.

  42. Thanks so much for stopping by my blog.
All the best with your submissions.
I too would be sadden to experience a condition that would take me away from writing, but I think I'd be stuburn enough to find some technology to compensate for it. Whether not a ever published again would be a different matter.

  43. I hope those circumstances never come to pass either, Pat. Good luck on your submissions.

  44. I've read a few answers to this month's question by now and it surely seems like we, writer, are quite committed!

Like you, I would only quit writing when I am not able to anymore, physically or mentally... I'm not necessarily talking about writing books, articles, or blogs - I could get tired of those! - but about writing in general: diaries, emails, notes, stories. :-)

Thanks for co-hosting this month, Pat!
