Hemisphere, A Fable out of The Child and The Prophet

The Southern Hemisphere was warm.  The sun shone.  The sun rays darkened the ocean floor.  The child sat in the middle of Lily Pad. She missed hiking through the countryside with Mr. Raccoon.

“What’s on your mind, Child?”

“Nothing.”

The Prophet sat on the edge of Lily Pad and observed her.  That she had to say goodbye pained her but she needed to put the goodbye behind her.

“Look out at the Southern Hemisphere, Child. Isn’t it beautiful?”

“Yes,” The Child mumbled. “I wonder what Mr. Raccoon is doing.”

“Probably looking for a home.”

“Will he find one?”

“Sure, he will.”

The Child sighed.

“I’m lonely out here on the water.”

“I’m here, Child.”

“But you disappear and Mr. Raccoon was always there.”

“Look, a visitor is coming our way.”

The Child looked at the restless sea. Something was stirring up waves making them move toward them.

“What is it, Prophet?”

“Why don’t you go see?”

“You want me to step out on the ocean?”

“Yes. You’ve done it before. I’m here if something happens.”

“But I don’t know what’s out there.”

“That’s why you’re going to see.”

The Child stood up and put one foot on the water and then the other. Although she hadn’t walked the water for a long time, she didn’t go under.   She turned to tell The Prophet, when under her, something touched the bottom of her feet and flipped her high up in the air.

“Eeeeeek! Prophet, help me!” She screamed as she went up in the air.  She closed her eyes hoping The Prophet would catch her as she came tumbling down.

“Eeeeeek! She said and landed on a big black slippery hide. “Mr. Whale, it’s you.” And she hugged him as she cried out of joy.
