IWSG DAY, SEPTEMBER 2, 2020, IF I COULD CHOOSE ONE AUTHOR TO BE MY BETA PARTNER, IT WOULD BE CATHERINE ANDERSON BY Pat Garcia

Hello Everyone,

It is IWSG Time!

IWSG is a writers' support group created and led by Alex Cavanaugh.

Purpose: To share and encourage. Writers can express doubts and concerns without fear of appearing foolish or weak. Those who have been through the fire can offer assistance and guidance. It’s a safe haven for insecure writers of all kinds!

This group is an immense help to many of us who do not mind sharing our insecurities, our successes, or giving encouragement and support to others.

So, if you are interested and would like to join, the link below will lead you directly to us:

If I Could Choose One Author To BMy Beta Partner, It Would be Catherine Anderson.

The first time I became acquainted with her writing was when I read Keegan's Lady. I fell in love with the book on the first page. By page fifteen, I was hooked, and I read through the night.

Anything she writes I buy, and I believe I have every one of her books.

Her characters fascinate me because they are not perfect. She shows the other side of life where, for example, a woman in a wheelchair meets the love of her life.

I am often saddened because of what I call the perfect world romance writers develop where everybody is beautiful and has never had a severe problem. The characters are borne perfect without flaws or deep wounds. However, this is not the case in Anderson's books. She writes stories that I can relate to that deal with real people and real-life situations.

I have never met her personally, but I feel as if I know her, and if I could have her as my beta partner, I would shout for joy because it would be a dream come true.

Shalom aleichem,

Pat Garcia

  1. Another new-to-me author! I'm loving this month's question as a way to add to my wishlist of books!

  2. If you feel like you know her just from her writing, then she is definitely a powerful writer.

  3. So agree that our characters can't be perfect. When I first started writing and didn't know anything, I made that big mistake and had to correct it in my first manuscript.

  4. My list of authors to check out is getting longer! Sounds like an author I'd enjoy :)

    1. Isn't it wonderful fall into a book and want to stay there? It sounds as if your beta reader choice wrote just such a book. (I can't seem to leave a comment here today, so am piggybacking onto Toi's comment.)

  9. That sounds like a very sane way of choosing a beta-buddy. I haven't heard of her before, but I shall look her up, because, as you say, life isn't like romantic fiction!

  10. I am with you and like flawed characters. I'll have to look for the story about the woman in a wheelchair. I have a feeling I'd love that one!

  12. Flawed characters can be fascinating. I've been watching two episodes a night of "Pie in the Sky." The main character must weight 400 pounds (well maybe 300). Just watching him get in & out of a car, sit, stand, walk through a door holds my attention.

  13. I love books I can't put down, and I love imperfect characters.

  14. I have never heard of this author, but just from your description, I need to read her work! It's so refreshing when characters aren't perfect.
    Happy ISWG!

  15. With luck, my earlier post was deleted. I described a flaw in the major character in Pie in the Sky. What I neglected to add, is his amazing powers of deduction. Excellent gift for problem solving through negotiation. Outstanding example of contrasts in real life human traits.

  16. Hi, Pat! I haven't read any books by Catherine Anderson, but she sounds like a wonderful writer. I did fall in love with and marry a man who was paralyzed, so I'd like to read that book for sure. Unfortunately, my love story did not end well. Love doesn't always conquer all. All the best to you!

  17. Just googled and found the book: "Phantom Waltz." It's now on my list!

  18. Don't you just love finding an author who makes you voracious to read all the works? I'll have to look her up.

  19. Hello Pat. I love the sound of Catherine Anderson and her flawed characters. Let's face it, we don't live in a perfect world. But on the other hand readers sometimes don't want to be challenged too much and want to escape the reality of their lives.

  20. I'm going to look up this author! I love it when an author makes me want to read up all of their work.

  21. Hi Pat. Catherine Anderson sounds like the kind of writer Id like to read. We need real stories about real people. There is something not real about perfection. So I think I do know what you mean.
