Lacedaemonian, Laconian, Ladin, Latin, A Fable from The Child and The Prophet

The Prophet led her to a cave between the rocks, built a fire, and the fish cooked on the open homemade grill.

Mr. Eagle

The Child sat at the cave opening talking with Mr. Eagle. His gaaaaks came at timely intervals letting her know he understood.

Soon their meal of fish and a dandelion salad prepared by The Prophet was ready, and The Child ate heartily.

"Prophet?"

"Would you tell me a story?"

"Of course, Child. What do you want to hear?"

"About the Lacedaemonians and then maybe a little bit about Latin America."

"Why Lacedaemonian?"

"Because you once told me the Lacedaemonian, Laconian, and Ladin were great people. Do you remember?"

"Child, I never forget."

"Oh," The Child murmured.

The Prophet regarded her. He could see her mind ticking, overflowing with thoughts.

The Child
"What are murmuring, child?" "

"Have you ever been to Lacedaemonian?"

"Why do you ask?"

"Cause you seem to know everything."

"Oh, I see."

"Prophet, you still haven't told me what karyotype means?"

"You haven't forgot that?"

"Did you forget."

"Child, I told you I never forget."

"Can you mix the story about the Lacedaemonian, Laconian, and Ladin and add in Karyotype too, so I'll know what it means?"

The Prophet

The Prophet chuckled at her cleverness.

"I thought you wanted to hear a story about Lacedaemonian and Latin America or did you forget?"

"Prophet, I never forget."

"Oh, Child,  travelling with you brings me inexplicable joy."

"Once upon a time," The Prophet began. "People lived in Greece who called themselves Spartans or Lacedaemonians or Laconians… "

"Prophet?"

"Yes, Child?"

"What does inexplicable mean?"

Shalom Aleichem,
